Pakistan May Reconsider World Cup Participation After Controversy

Pakistan’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has become uncertain after Bangladesh was removed from the tournament following a major dispute with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Bangladesh was dropped from the event and replaced by Scotland after it refused to travel to India for its scheduled matches, despite the ICC ruling that there was no credible security threat. The decision came after weeks of negotiations and a final 24-hour deadline that went unanswered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

In the wake of this development, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi criticized the ICC’s handling of the situation, calling it unfair and accusing the governing body of “double standards.” Naqvi stated that Pakistan’s final decision on whether to participate in the World Cup will be determined by the Government of Pakistan once the prime minister returns to the country.

Pakistan had already received a concession from the ICC to play all of its matches — including the group game against India — in Sri Lanka under a neutral venue arrangement. However, with Bangladesh’s removal now confirmed, sources say Pakistan is still evaluating its stance in solidarity with Bangladesh’s concerns.

The 20-team tournament is scheduled to begin on February 7, 2026, with matches co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The situation has drawn reactions from cricket officials and fans worldwide, with the PCB expected to announce its participation decision soon.
